My Story: From Iceland to Quilters Around the World
I’m so glad you found us! At GE Designs, we’ve always been more than a quilt shop—we’re a community built on creativity, connection, and a passion for making quilting easier and more joyful.
I discovered quilting at 23 while living in my native Iceland, and what started as a creative outlet quickly turned into a lifelong journey. Before long, I launched Iceland’s first online quilt shop and began designing patterns that mixed traditional ideas with a fresh, modern twist. Always keeping things simple, fun, and approachable.
In 2003, quilting led me, and my family, all the way to Minnesota, where GE Designs truly began to flourish. From my cozy studio just west of the Twin Cities, I’ve spent the years designing patterns, publishing books, and creating tools that make quilting faster, easier, and a lot more fun.
When I designed the first Stripology ruler, I knew there had to be a better way to cut fabric and save time. That innovation sparked a whole line of tools, including our GEasy tools, all designed to help quilters like you skip the frustration and get straight to the joy of creating.
Today, GE Designs has grown into a vibrant, global quilting family—and I couldn’t be more proud. No matter how much we grow, one thing will never change: we’re here to inspire creativity, simplify the process, and make sure every quilter feels right at home.

Where Stripology Began
The story of Stripology starts in Houston, that’s where everything changed.
At a bustling trade show 10 years ago, Gudrun unveiled the first-ever Stripology Ruler. What began as a simple demo quickly turned into a breakthrough moment. Not just for her, but for quilters everywhere.
Designed to make fabric cutting faster, easier, and more accurate, this innovative tool sparked a whole new approach to quilting. From that day forward, Stripology became more than just a ruler, it became a movement.
Quilters have always loved precision, but hated the hassle.
That’s where Stripology came in. With built-in slots, smart markings, and ergonomic design, it removed the most frustrating parts of fabric cutting: measuring over and over, miscuts, wasted fabric, and time lost to second-guessing.
Stripology gave quilters what they’d been craving for years—effortless accuracy.
As Gudrun began designing patterns around the ruler, she unlocked a whole new way to design quilts, from the ruler out. Her geometric design approach simplified even the most complex blocks. What used to be tedious and time-consuming suddenly became streamlined, fast, and fun.
From that moment on, Stripology wasn’t just a ruler—it became the foundation of an entirely new quilting system.
